For what feels like an eternity, Nvidia GeForce graphics cards have absolutely dominated the Steam Hardware Survey. But in the most recent survey for September 2025, AMD has finally started to claw its way back, showing a glimmer of hope for Radeon fans.
The notable achievement? AMD’s Radeon brand has secured a spot in the top ten most used GPUs among the millions of Steam users. While this isn’t a dramatic shift in market share, it signifies that more gamers are now running Radeon GPUs. Interestingly, even a highly anticipated card like the Radeon RX 9070 XT, which often features in discussions about the best graphics cards, has yet to make its mark on the chart.
However, before AMD enthusiasts pop the champagne, there’s a small caveat. The top ten entry for AMD is generically listed as “AMD Radeon(TM) Graphics,” without specifying a particular model. This broad category could encompass anything from integrated laptop GPUs to older dedicated Radeon cards. If it were a distinct, modern graphics card, we’d typically expect Valve to list it by its specific name.
To find a named AMD GPU, you’d have to scroll all the way down to the 29th position, where the venerable RX 6600 makes an appearance. Surprisingly, not a single RX 9000 series card has cracked the top 100, which is quite unexpected given their generally positive reception, especially when some truly ancient cards are still present on the list.
On Nvidia’s side, the landscape is also shifting. The RTX 4060 laptop edition has now claimed the top spot, seeing a 0.22% increase in user base from the previous month. Conversely, its desktop counterpart, the RTX 4060, experienced a 0.6% drop, moving from first to third place.
The ongoing rivalry between AMD and Nvidia continues to evolve, reflecting the dynamic preferences of the PC gaming community.
