In a significant announcement stemming from recent layoffs within Amazon’s gaming division, developer Amazon Games Orange County has confirmed that their MMORPG, New World: Aeternum, will cease receiving new content following the release of Season 10: Nighthaven. This marks a pivotal shift for the game, as no further seasons or downloadable content will be introduced.
The studio shared this decision on its official channels, clarifying that while new content is ending, New World: Aeternum is not immediately going offline. Developers anticipate the game will remain operational through 2026, though long-term guarantees beyond that period are uncertain. As a gesture of appreciation to its dedicated community, the Nighthaven update has been made entirely free. Furthermore, to ensure all PC players can access this final chapter, the “Rise of the Angry Earth” expansion is also now free.
For PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium subscribers, New World: Aeternum will continue to be accessible, although the exact duration of this partnership remains unclear to the development team. Going forward, the game will transition into a new phase focused on essential bug fixes and crucial quality-of-life improvements. Players can still purchase and download the game, and some existing activities like world bosses and bonus weeks will persist. However, future holiday events have unfortunately been canceled.
Amazon Games Orange County has committed to providing its player base with at least six months’ advance notice should any changes be made that would affect their ability to play New World: Aeternum.
