Alaska Airlines announced Thursday (October 23, 2025) that its operations have officially resumed following a significant information technology outage that brought its flights to a halt for several hours. This widespread system failure resulted in the cancellation of 229 flights.
While flights are now back in motion, the airline cautioned that passengers should still anticipate further disruptions. The company is actively working to “reposition aircraft and crews” to normalize schedules, advising all travelers to diligently check their flight status before heading to the airport.
The grounding incident on Wednesday (October 22) specifically impacted Alaska Air and Horizon Air flights. Interestingly, Hawaiian Airlines, which was acquired by Alaska Air Group last year, confirmed that its flights were operating as scheduled and remained unaffected by the system malfunction.
This isn’t the first time Alaska Airlines has faced such challenges. Just last July, the airline experienced a similar three-hour grounding due to a critical hardware failure at a data center. Such computer-related issues have historically caused temporary, but often significant, disruptions across the airline industry.
