In a heartwarming throwback interview, Bollywood icon Aishwarya Rai Bachchan offered a glimpse into her ideal partner, revealing that she doesn’t prioritize a “drop-dead gorgeous” appearance. Instead, she expressed a desire for her future husband to possess qualities like sensitivity, faith, honesty, and a good sense of humor.
Speaking in a 1999 interview on Anuradha Prasad’s show ‘Let’s Talk,’ the former Miss World shared her dreams for a fulfilling relationship. “Like normal girls, we love to dream aloud,” she admitted. “I’m not into the whole ‘has to look drop-dead gorgeous’ idea, because that’s not all. I may sound cliché, but like all girls — or probably human beings — I want a certain degree of sensitivity, faith, honesty, and a sense of humour in my spouse. You want a certain amicability, someone who is a people’s person.” She further added that she hoped anyone meeting her wouldn’t have a preconceived notion based solely on her on-screen persona.
When asked about falling in love, Aishwarya reflected, “No, but I hope to rise in love. Love as an emotion is very beautiful, and we are fortunate to have this gift. But I think we have to be sensitive enough to feel it. You’ve got to give as much as you take from it. Love is a very broad, subjective emotion, and I’ve been blessed with this gift — I thank God for it.”
This candid revelation has resonated deeply with fans, particularly in light of her marriage to actor Abhishek Bachchan. Many have taken to social media to express how Abhishek perfectly fits the description Aishwarya provided. Comments like “Coming to what she wants in a partner, AB ticks a lot of the boxes,” and “Abhishek is everything she talked about in this interview… So glad she ended up with him,” highlight the public’s admiration for their relationship.
Aishwarya and Abhishek, who first met on the sets of ‘Dhaai Akshar Prem Ke,’ deepened their bond during the filming of ‘Guru’ in 2007. Abhishek proposed after the film’s premiere, and the couple married in April 2007. They have a daughter, Aaradhya Bachchan, and have largely kept their personal lives private.
Professionally, Aishwarya was last seen in Mani Ratnam’s critically acclaimed film ‘Ponniyin Selvan II,’ which achieved significant box office success. Abhishek Bachchan also praised her performance, calling it her “best by far.” The film, a period drama, grossed over ₹344 crore worldwide, showcasing Aishwarya’s continued impact on the big screen. She is yet to announce her upcoming projects.
