The Shetty family is filled with a unique festive cheer this Diwali, as it marks the first celebration with their newest family member, Evaarah, the daughter of cricketer KL Rahul and former actress Athiya Shetty. Proud uncle Ahan Shetty shared that this milestone has amplified the festive anticipation tenfold.
“For me, the festive season is all about spending quality time with family and close friends,” Ahan explained. “While I was away traveling for the past couple of years, this year is particularly special because we’ll be celebrating with my niece. It’s her first Diwali, making it even more memorable.” He added, “There’s a palpable sense of excitement as we look forward to many ‘firsts.’ Unfortunately, KL Rahul is currently in Australia for India’s tour, but the rest of the family will be together.”
Ahan finds his niece Evaarah to be the brightest light of the year. “She has brought so much love and happiness into our lives. We were already a happy family, but she has definitely amplified that joy,” he said. Reflecting on his role as an uncle, Ahan envisions himself as a mix of both doting and guiding: “I’ll definitely pamper her, but when it comes to teaching her things, I aim to be a bit serious rather than just the ‘strict mamu.'”
Evaarah’s arrival has also given Ahan a new perspective on his sister, Athiya. “Seeing Athiya as a hands-on mother to Evaarah, I’ve witnessed a different, incredibly nurturing and caring side to her. It’s truly amazing. Growing up, she was like a second mother to me, and now seeing her with her own child fills me with immense pride. In a way, I’m happy that this nurturing role has passed from me to Evaarah,” he quipped.
Ahan is currently focused on his upcoming film, Border 2, which requires a strict diet. However, he’s making sure to sneak in some festive indulgences. “I absolutely love Indian sweets, especially motichoor laddoo. They’re my favorites. Even though I’m on a strict diet for Border 2, I allow myself some sweets during Diwali, even if the main meals adhere to my diet,” he shared with a smile.
When asked about the meaning of Diwali for him, Ahan shared his personal philosophy: “For me, Diwali is about embracing happiness, letting go of the past, and looking forward to new beginnings. Reflecting on my own career journey, from where it started to where I’m heading, I see this as a time to release what’s happened and embrace the new chapter ahead.”
