Zaira Wasim, the talented former actress who captivated audiences with her breakthrough performance in the 2016 sports drama Dangal, recently delighted her followers by sharing photographs from her wedding on social media platforms.
The images, posted on Friday by the 24-year-old, included a poignant moment of her signing the marriage contract. Another photograph showed her gracefully posing alongside her husband, whose identity she chose to keep private, both figures turned away from the camera, adding an air of intimacy to the announcement.
After achieving widespread recognition in Dangal, where she starred opposite Bollywood icon Aamir Khan, Wasim continued to impress with her roles in the critically acclaimed 2017 coming-of-age film Secret Superstar and the 2019 drama The Sky Is Pink, featuring alongside Priyanka Chopra and Farhan Akhtar.
Her powerful performance in Dangal not only garnered immense public appreciation but also earned Wasim a prestigious National Award in 2017 for Best Supporting Actress, with the film itself becoming a massive box-office success upon its release.
However, in 2019, Wasim made the significant decision to retire from acting, announcing her departure through a heartfelt post on her Facebook profile. She explained that her career in the entertainment industry had increasingly conflicted with her personal faith and religious beliefs.
Reflecting on her journey, she wrote: “For a very long time now, it has felt like I have struggled to become someone else. As I had just started to explore and make sense of the things to which I dedicated my time, efforts, and emotions, and tried to embrace a new lifestyle, it was only for me to realize that though I may fit here perfectly, I do not truly belong here.”
She elaborated on her reasoning, stating: “This field indeed brought a lot of love, support, and applause my way, but what it also did was to lead me to a path of ignorance, as I silently and unconsciously transitioned out of Imaan (faith). While I continued to work in an environment that consistently interfered with my Imaan, my relationship with my religion was threatened.”
