The battle for humanity continues in Warhammer 40k Space Marine 2, and developer Saber Interactive isn’t slowing down! Following their massive anniversary update, new details for the upcoming Update 11 have been revealed. While we knew a Blood Angels Champion Pack was on its way, the specifics have finally landed, bringing both excitement and a touch of controversy. For the most devoted followers of Sanguinius, there’s a bit of a sting: the new Blood Angels cosmetic is exclusively for the Tactical class. But don’t despair entirely; there’s a small glimmer of hope amidst the grumbling.
Cosmetic customization is a massive draw in any live-service title, and Space Marine 2, being one of the standout Warhammer 40k games, is no exception. Champion Packs are designed to introduce stunningly detailed skins for specific classes, often chosen to reflect the Chapter’s signature fighting style. For example, the steadfast Imperial Fists perfectly suit the Tactical class, while the Dark Angels Bulwark provides ample canvas for their intricate designs. The Space Wolves dive headfirst into combat as Vanguards. But then there are the Salamanders…

Surprisingly, the Salamanders Champion skin was allocated to the Sniper class, a perplexing choice given their iconic flamethrowers and legendary resilience. Many players questioned why not a Raven Guard Sniper, or a Salamanders Heavy/Tactical build? The community voiced their concerns loudly when the Salamanders skin was first released, hoping Saber Interactive would heed their feedback and avoid similar missteps in the future.
Regrettably, it appears history is repeating itself. The Blood Angels are renowned for their lightning-fast assaults and extensive use of jump pack infantry. It would seem natural for an exclusive Blood Angels skin to be assigned to the Assault class. Yet, we’re once again seeing a standard Tactical Marine take center stage.
The reasoning behind this decision from Saber Interactive remains unclear, but the developers are clearly aware of the potential disappointment. As a small consolation, they’re offering a unique custom Jump Pack. Their official communication states, “Now, before all Blood Angels come to our office searching for Horus, please note that the Champion Pack will also come with its own unique Jump Pack, and its individual parts can be used separately like with other champions.” This implies some customization flexibility, a minor comfort to an enraged Chapter.
Whether this olive branch will placate the fury of thousands of Blood Angels players is yet to be seen. Personally, I’m just a humble Space Marine fan, patiently awaiting a hint of cosmetic love for the Iron Hands, regardless of which class they might receive it for.
Meanwhile, I’m brimming with excitement over the teased new Operations map. It appears to be set aboard a massive, ruined battle barge floating in orbit above one of the game’s ravaged planets. I truly hope the level design captures the intense atmosphere suggested by the initial screenshots.
Saber Interactive also confirmed that an increasing number of “Heroic” items are being introduced, promising compelling reasons to revisit Siege mode. Dmitriy Grigorenko, the game director, offered tantalizingly cryptic hints about upcoming customization enhancements. He mentioned plans to implement “something we should have done a long time ago,” “something we said we were going to do, but nobody noticed,” and even “something we said we were never going to do.” This certainly sparks curiosity!
Mark your calendars! Space Marine 2 will feature a free demo from Thursday, October 16, to Thursday, October 23. Keep an eye out for it on Steam!
