The highly anticipated sequel, Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc, has once again proven its popularity, slashing its way to the top of the Japanese box office for a second consecutive weekend. The film garnered an impressive 799.7 million yen (approximately 5.41 million USD) from 523,000 admissions during its second weekend. While experiencing a 36% week-on-week drop, its continued dominance is a clear testament to the franchise’s strong fanbase.
Since its debut in Japanese cinemas on September 19, Reze Arc has amassed a stunning 2.98 billion yen (roughly 20.16 million USD) from 1.96 million tickets in just ten days. This incredible performance has propelled it to become the fifth top-grossing Japanese anime film of 2025, outperforming notable titles such as Hypnosis Mic -Division Rap Battle- and Eiga Crayon Shin-chan Cho Karei! Shakunetsu no Kasukabe Dancers.
Not far behind, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle held its ground firmly in the second-place position for the eleventh weekend running. The film added another 447 million yen (around 3.02 million USD) from 271,000 admissions. Its cumulative domestic gross is now a colossal 35,064,331,400 yen (an astounding 237 million USD) from over 24.2 million admissions since its release 73 days ago, showcasing its enduring appeal.
Among the new entrants, The Silent Service – “Hokkyokukai Daikaisen” (The Great Sea Battle of The Arctic Ocean), a live-action adaptation of Kaiji Kawaguchi’s political-military manga, made its debut at third place. Opening in 345 theaters, it earned 282 million yen (approximately 1.91 million USD) from 195,000 admissions. While its opening weekend gross was 76.2% of the first film released in September 2023, it still received positive audience feedback, ranking third in Filmarks’ first-day satisfaction with an average rating of 3.96/5.0.
Other anime films also saw movement on the charts. Eiga Kimi to Idol Precure♪ Omatase! Kimi ni Todokeru KirakkiLive! (You and Idol Precure The Movie: For You! Our Kirakilala Concert!) dipped one spot to seventh in its third weekend. Meanwhile, Uoto’s sports manga adaptation, 100 METERS, settled into tenth place, two positions down from its opening weekend.
A unique entry making waves was the Aqours Documentary, a film dedicated to the nine-member voice actor unit from the Love Live! Sunshine!! anime series. Although it didn’t land in the overall top 10 rankings after opening in 111 theaters on September 26, it achieved an overwhelming average rating of 4.63/5.0 based on 145 reviews on Filmarks, topping their first-day satisfaction ranking. This indicates strong critical and fan appreciation, even if not reflected in immediate box office numbers.
