Anticipation is building for the Samsung Galaxy S26 series, expected to launch in early 2026, as recent leaks hint at a significant camera overhaul with the One UI 8.5 update. Samsung is reportedly preparing one of its most ambitious camera enhancements in years, focusing on Look-Up Table (LUT) profiles to elevate professional-grade mobile video recording. This feature is poised to debut on the Galaxy S26 Ultra and may also be rolled out to select existing devices via the One UI 8.5 update. This strategic move appears to be a direct challenge to Apple’s strong foothold in the professional mobile videography arena.
Samsung to Integrate LUTs Directly into Its Video Editor
According to tipster PhoneArt (@UniverseIce) on X (formerly Twitter), the One UI 8.5 build, currently undergoing testing, includes five integrated LUT styles. These are designed to apply distinct visual tones to Log video footage with a single tap. A video shared by the tipster, showcasing the One UI 8.5 settings, demonstrates how these styles are rendered.
PhoneArt stated, “One UI 8.5 is a new function with five LUT styles built in, which can restore different video styles to Log video with one click, but this function is under development now, and there is something wrong with the color.”
The leaked video reveals five distinct profiles—Standard, Blockbuster, Coming-of-Age, Romance, and Thriller—seamlessly integrated into Samsung’s native video editor. These profiles are specifically crafted to enhance Log video footage. Users will have the flexibility to disable the LUT preview to view the raw Log footage and can effortlessly swipe through these styles, benefiting from real-time previews to select their preferred aesthetic.
Each LUT applies unique cinematic color and brightness adjustments to the video. The ‘Standard’ and ‘Blockbuster’ styles appear to offer highly saturated tones, while the other profiles provide more natural, cinematic looks. While processing times will vary depending on video length, shorter clips are expected to render much faster. As soon as a style is selected, the viewfinder updates instantly, allowing for quick comparisons before finalization.
Samsung initially introduced the Log video feature with the Galaxy S25 series, later expanding it to older flagships like the Galaxy S24 Ultra through the One UI 7 update. The upcoming integration of LUT profiles directly within the stock video editor via the One UI 8.5 update for the Galaxy S26 series, set for early next year, is expected to further enhance this capability.
This addition could significantly bolster Samsung’s position in mobile videography, potentially closing the gap with competitors like the iPhone 17 Pro by offering users more sophisticated customization options.
Beyond the new LUT profiles, One UI 8.5 is also rumored to introduce other enhancements, such as refreshed lock screen clock styles and blurred backgrounds for lock screen notifications on Galaxy smartphones. Samsung is reportedly testing the One UI 8.5 build on international variants of devices including the Galaxy S24+, Galaxy S25, and the Galaxy Z Fold 7.
