Reading Time: 5 min

With countless shows available across streaming platforms and cable, deciding what to watch can be a challenge. To help you out, we’ve curated a selection of the best TV shows and specials airing or streaming between September 29th and October 5th. Please note that details and times are subject to change.

When Nature Turns Terrifying

While most horror films depict human killers, a new nature documentary, “Nightmares of Nature: Cabin in the Woods,” brings the chilling reality of predation in the wild to your screen. Narrated by Maya Hawke, this series follows the harrowing tales of a mouse, a raccoon, and a frog as they desperately seek refuge from their natural enemies, only to discover even greater dangers lurking within a seemingly safe cabin. Catch it streaming Tuesday on Netflix. An accompanying image shows a still from “Nightmares of Nature: Cabin in the Woods.”

One of history’s most infamous murderers, Ed Gein, becomes the subject of Ryan Murphy’s latest anthology series, “Monster: The Ed Gein Story.” In 1957, the discovery of Bernice Worden’s body at his home exposed Gein’s grotesque practice of grave robbing and crafting household items from human remains, including an armchair upholstered in human skin. His horrific crimes served as chilling inspiration for iconic sociopath portrayals in films like “Psycho,” “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre,” and “Silence of the Lambs.” This new season follows previous installments that delved into the stories of Erik and Lyle Menendez, and Jeffrey Dahmer. Don’t miss it streaming Friday on Netflix.

A Week of Action: From Philadelphia’s Schools to Chicago’s Streets

Get ready for a full night of drama from the Windy City! NBC’s popular procedurals return this Wednesday, starting with “Chicago Med,” where a dedicated team of doctors works tirelessly to save lives. Immediately following, “Chicago Fire” ignites its 14th season, introducing new faces like Sal Vasquez (Brandon Larracuente) to Firehouse 51. The evening concludes with “Chicago P.D.” kicking off its 13th season as Eva Imani (Arienne Mandi) joins the police force. Tune in Wednesday starting at 8 p.m. on NBC.

Meanwhile, in Philadelphia, prepare for more hilarious chaos as “Abbott Elementary” returns for its fifth season premiere. Judging by the trailer, expect plenty of comedic mishaps, from bike tumbles to pigeon pandemonium and even a collapsing ceiling! Don’t miss it Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. on ABC, or stream it the next day on Hulu and Disney+.

Luxury Voyages, Blind Romance, and Ice Hockey Drama

Fans of nautical drama rejoice! The beloved Bravo franchise, “Below Deck,” has been dominating screens with continuous seasons. Following the conclusion of “Below Deck” Season 12, prepare to set sail from St. Maarten and St. Barths to the stunning Spanish coast for Season 10 of “Below Deck Mediterranean.” Expect familiar faces as Aesha Scott returns as chief stew, with Captain Sandy Yawn steering the ship. Catch the premiere Monday at 8 p.m. on Bravo.

For those seeking romance with a twist, a new season of “Love Is Blind” is here, featuring singles from Denver entering the famed pods. The show’s unique premise remains: individuals get to know each other and potentially get engaged without ever seeing their partners. Afterward, they embark on a honeymoon to decide if their connection is strong enough for marriage. While past seasons haven’t boasted a high success rate, proving perhaps that love isn’t truly blind, the series promises compelling entertainment. Stream it Wednesday on Netflix.

As hockey season approaches, get your game face on with the gripping documentary series, “Faceoff: Inside the N.H.L.” This series offers an intimate look into the world of professional hockey. One episode features insights from stars like Sidney Crosby and Anze Kopitar on the upcoming 2024-25 season, while another shares the poignant story of Johnny Gaudreau’s widow. She bravely discusses her profound grief following the tragic loss of her husband, a Columbus Blue Jackets player, and his brother, Matthew Gaudreau, both victims of a drunk driver. Stream it Friday on Prime Video.

Enchanting Tales and a Gridiron Comeback

An image accompanies this section, featuring Glen Powell in “Chad Powers.” The popular skit character created by former N.F.L. quarterback Eli Manning has officially transitioned into a full-fledged TV series! “Chad Powers” stars Glen Powell as Russ Holliday, a former college quarterback who adopts the persona of Chad Powers. His mission? To join the struggling South Georgia Catfish team as a walk-on player and turn their fortunes around. Catch this fun new series streaming Tuesday on Hulu.

Michael Buckley’s beloved books come to life this week with the animated premiere of “The Sisters Grimm.” Featuring the voices of Ariel Winter and Leah Newman, the series follows sisters Sabrina and Daphne on a quest to unravel the mystery behind their parents’ disappearance while interacting with a charming cast of characters straight out of classic fairy tales. Tune in streaming Friday on Apple TV+.
