Exciting news for ‘Mr. Osomatsu’ fans! The official website for the second live-action movie, dramatically titled Eiga Osomatsu-san Jinrui Kuzu-ka Keikaku !!!!!? (which roughly translates to Mr. Osomatsu The Movie: The Plan to Turn Humanity into Scum!!!!!?), has just unveiled six fresh faces joining the cast. Iconic characters like Totoko will be portrayed by Miho Watanabe (formerly of Hanatazaka46), while the distinctive Iyami will be brought to life by Yusuke Onuki. Chibita will be played by fashion model and influencer Naenano, and Nyaa Hashimoto by Iori Noguchi (=LOVE member). Rounding out the new additions are Hiroki Miyake as Matsuzo Matsuno and Tae Kimura as Matsuyo Matsuno.
Directed by Taisuke Kawamura, known for his work on films like Nodame Cantabile: The Movie II, this sequel is slated for release in Japan on January 9, 2026. A significant change from the 2022 first film sees a new lineup for the infamous Matsuno sextuplets. This time, five members of Ae! Group — Seiya Suezawa as Osomatsu, Yoshinori Masakado as Karamatsu, Masaya Sano as Choromatsu, Ken Kojima as Ichimatsu, and Keita Richard Kusama as Jushimatsu — will take on the roles. They are joined by Takuya Nishimura from Kansai Junior, who will play Todomatsu.
The film’s synopsis teases a hilarious, albeit troubling, premise: The Matsuno sextuplets—Osomatsu, Karamatsu, Choromatsu, Ichimatsu, Jushimatsu, and Todomatsu—are still their familiar NEET selves, jobless and dependent on their parents well into their twenties. Despite their parents’ hopes for them to become responsible adults, the brothers are content with their ‘scummy’ existence. However, a strange turn of events sees the world’s perception of them suddenly shift. Their lazy, unconventional antics begin to be praised, leading to a perplexing question: Has society finally caught up with the sextuplets, or is something far more bizarre at play? What fate awaits the world when ‘scum’ becomes celebrated?
For those new to the phenomenon, the Mr. Osomatsu TV anime series has captivated audiences across four seasons since 2017, with its latest season premiering in Japan on July 8, 2025. The anime itself is a modern adaptation of Fujio Akatsuka’s classic gag manga series Osomatsu-kun, which originally ran from 1962 to 1969. It famously centers around the Matsuno brothers, a set of identical sextuplets led by the eldest, Osomatsu, as they navigate adulthood in their own hilariously dysfunctional way.
