Authorities in Kannur, Kerala, are intensifying their investigation after a candidate was caught employing advanced technology to cheat during a Public Service Commission (PSC) examination. The incident occurred at Payyambalam Girls Higher Secondary School.
The suspect, identified as Muhammed Saad NP, 27, from Peralassery in Kannur, was apprehended by the PSC Vigilance squad based on prior intelligence. It was discovered that he had concealed a miniature camera near his shirt collar to capture question papers and transmit them to an external accomplice. Simultaneously, he was using an earphone connected to his mobile phone to receive answers.
When the vigilance team moved to detain him, Saad attempted to flee but was quickly apprehended by a police team led by Kannur town inspector Sreejith Koderi. His mobile phone, camera, and earphones were confiscated as evidence.
Further investigations revealed that Saad had external assistants who were aiding him in the cheating operation. Efforts are now underway to identify and locate these individuals. The PSC has launched a separate inquiry into all examinations previously attended by Saad, with a particular focus on tests conducted on August 30. He has been debarred from participating in future PSC examinations.
The police plan to question Saad extensively before presenting him in court in Kannur.
