Despite Netflix marketing ‘Wayward’ as a limited series, which typically signals a one-season run, both creator Mae Martin and the cast are open to the possibility of a second season. Martin expressed that while the show was initially intended as a miniseries, there’s “definitely more story to tell,” especially given the unresolved plotlines. Co-star Sarah Gadon echoed this sentiment, noting that “nothing’s tied up in a neat little bow,” and Toni Collette called the narrative “endlessly intriguing.” Both Alyvia Alyn Lind and Sydney Topliffe have also expressed their willingness to return.
However, Martin acknowledged the complexities of a potential Season 2, citing the sheer number of deceased characters that would inevitably attract significant attention from authorities like the FBI. If a second season were to materialize, it could delve deeper into the lives of supporting characters such as Stacey, Mule, and Duck, and provide answers regarding Evelyn’s fate, Alex’s commitment to Laura, and Abbie’s escape.
For now, fans will have to eagerly await Netflix’s decision to see if ‘Wayward’ will be renewed or if its story will remain a captivating one-season mystery. The series is currently available for streaming on Netflix.
