For those aiming to experience every possible outcome and achieve true completion, obtaining the Sacred Sword multiple times is a must. This comprehensive guide will walk you through securing this unique Silent Hill f weapon, locating it across the eerie landscape, and performing the purification ritual — a vital step for certain endings in this haunting horror game.
Acquiring the Sacred Sword in Silent Hill f: A Step-by-Step Guide
To unlock the Sacred Sword in New Game Plus, your quest begins with locating five distinct key items. These items must then be presented as offerings to five Jizo statues scattered across the game world. Keep in mind that while Jizo statues are present from the start, you can only interact with them once you possess one of the required offerings. The five crucial items are:
- Faded Bride Doll
- Rusted Flask
- Broken Japanese Geta Sandals
- Cracked Hibachi Brazier
- Dad’s Old Kitchen Knife
Faded Bride Doll
The Faded Bride Doll is an early-game find, accessible even before you fully descend the mountain into Ebisugaoka. An eastern house, previously inaccessible, now welcomes you. Head inside and ascend to the upstairs, where you’ll find the Treasure Hunting Game Key. With this key in hand, return downstairs to the kitchen and use it on a treasure chest to reveal the doll.
Once the doll is in your possession, exit the house and continue southward. Take the very first left turn you encounter, and you’ll spot the first Jizo shrine directly opposite a post box. Interact with it to present your doll offering.
Rusted Flask
You’ll find the Rusted Flask situated directly in front of Sakuko’s family shrine, located in the northern sector of the map. This can be picked up conveniently while you are on your way to Rinko’s house with Shu.
To locate the corresponding Jizo Shrine, head back south from the flask’s location and take the first left. Turn left once more into a small garden, where the shrine awaits behind the building.
Broken Japanese Geta Sandals
The Broken Geta Sandals can be acquired before you even set foot in the middle school. As you approach the school, turn back towards the southernmost pathway – the one that’s usually blocked off. You’ll find the sandals lying just in front of this obstruction.
The Jizo Shrine for these sandals is on the other side of that same blockage, meaning you’ll need to take the longer route around. Look for a small house with a path running along its left side; at the end of this path, the shrine awaits.
Cracked Hibachi Brazier
When your current objective leads you to Shu’s house, you’ll be able to obtain the fourth item: the Cracked Hibachi Brazier. Venture around to the back of Shu’s house, then proceed down the right-hand side of a shed, where the brazier will be waiting on the ground.
After securing the brazier, head back around to the front of Shu’s house and follow the path westward until you notice a set of stairs on your right. Climb these stairs to discover the Jizo Shrine for this offering.
Dad’s Old Kitchen Knife
Himanko’s dad’s kitchen knife is lodged in a tree to the east of Shu’s house. However, you can only retrieve it when your current objective specifically states, ‘Make your way down the mountain and head to the Shimizu residence.’
The Jizo Shrine for this particular offering is conveniently close. Simply turn back from where you found the knife, take an immediate left turn, and the shrine will be right in front of you.
It’s important to remember that all these key items will persist in your inventory across New Game Plus saves until you successfully offer them at their respective shrines.
Where to Find the Sacred Sword
Once you have successfully made all five offerings, the Sacred Sword will become available to you at the Thousand Year Cedar. As you approach this ancient tree, a cutscene will automatically trigger, and upon its conclusion, the sword will be granted to you.
However, if your goal is to achieve the bad ending, it is advisable to avoid approaching the tree entirely. If you accidentally trigger the cutscene, you will then *have* to purify the sword to unlock the bad ending. More details on purification follow below.
The Purification Process: Cleansing the Sacred Sword
Whether you’ve picked up the Sacred Sword by accident and are aiming for the bad ending, or you’re deliberately pursuing the true ending that requires its purification, this crucial ritual can only be performed in the Main Hall of The Dark Shrine while you are in pursuit of Fox Mask.
To purify the sword, you must first solve the Crimson Water Puzzle, which is found in an area exclusive to New Game Plus saves. To reach this area during the ‘Chase after Fox Mask’ objective, head down a southeastern staircase from the Main Hall – 2nd Floor. This path is cleverly concealed behind a destructible wall.
Once inside the new Hermitage of Crimson Water area, make your way to the stone in the oval-shaped area at the northern part of the map and interact with it. While it’s not definitively confirmed, it’s safest to assume you need to activate this first. Your next task is to interact with three bells in a specific sequence, timing your actions with the sporadic auditory cues that resemble wooden clacking sounds.
First, cross back over the bridge and turn left. Follow this path until you reach a building. The first bell is located on its back balcony, but do not ring it until you hear the distinct auditory signal. Immediately after, sprint as quickly as you can to the spot where you initially interacted with the stone. The second bell hangs from a tree here; ring it as soon as you hear the corresponding tone. Finally, head back over the bridge, turn right, and you’ll find another bell hanging from a tree on your left. Ring this bell precisely in time with the next wooden clacking sound. If executed correctly, the water will now flow crimson.
The actual purification of the sword doesn’t happen in the Hermitage of Crimson Water. Instead, you must return to Ebisugaoka, specifically behind Shu’s house, where a stone vessel is now filled with crimson water. The exact location is marked on the map image above. Interact with this water to finally purify the Sacred Sword.
With these steps completed, the Silent Hill f Sacred Sword is now rightfully yours, whether purified or not.
