The latest data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) reveals a notable shift in India’s automotive market for August. Passenger vehicle shipments from manufacturers to dealerships experienced a 9% year-on-year drop, totaling 3,21,840 units for the month.
This contrasts with the 3,52,921 passenger vehicles sold wholesale during August of the previous year (2024), highlighting a clear slowdown in this segment.
However, it wasn’t all downturns. The two-wheeler segment saw a positive surge, with dispatches increasing by a healthy 7% year-on-year. A total of 18,33,921 two-wheelers were sent to dealers last month, significantly up from 17,11,662 units recorded in the same period a year ago. These figures were released in an official statement by SIAM on Monday, September 15, 2025.
