Gamers hoping for expanded mod support in The Witcher 3 will need to hold their horses a bit longer. CD Projekt has confirmed that a crucial patch, intended to bring cross-platform mod capabilities to PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, has been delayed until 2026.
Originally, the studio had announced this patch for late 2025 as part of The Witcher 3’s 10th-anniversary celebrations. At the time, CD Projekt expressed excitement, stating, “For the first time, creating, sharing, and enjoying mods for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be easier and more accessible than ever.”
However, in a recent update, the developers shared the news of the delay, without specifying a new release window within 2026. “We apologize for the delay and will share more details as we get closer to the release,” CD Projekt conveyed. “Thank you for your patience!”
This update was famously dubbed “one more patch” for the beloved game, which continues to captivate a large player base a decade after its initial launch.
The Witcher 3 has achieved an astounding milestone, selling over 60 million copies. This figure includes sales of the base game and its Game of the Year (GOTY) edition, excluding separately sold expansions. This places it neck and neck with Bethesda’s The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, which Todd Howard, Bethesda’s development chief, confirmed had also sold over 60 million copies as of June 2023. This creates a fascinating potential tie for the title of the best-selling role-playing game of all time.
Adam Badowski, joint CEO of CD Projekt, commented on The Witcher 3’s impressive sales success:
Without a doubt, the third part of Geralt’s adventures marks a pivotal point in our history. The game earned hundreds of awards and solidified our studio’s standing, but more importantly, it brought untold hours of adventures and emotions to millions of games the world over. I am proud to announce that since its release The Witcher 3 has sold over 60 million copies, securing a place among the bestselling video games in all history, and motivating us to carry on with intensive work on the next trilogy set in this universe.
Badowski’s statement also hinted at the future, referring to the upcoming The Witcher 4, which is currently in full production and is not expected to launch before 2027.
