Helldivers 2 has emerged as one of Sony’s standout live-service games, especially following its expansion to include Xbox Series X|S. However, for those expecting an immediate sequel, Arrowhead Game Studio’s CEO, Shams Jorjani, has a different vision. His aim for Helldivers 2 is for it to be a persistent, evolving “forever game.”
In a recent Discord post, Jorjani explicitly stated there are “no plans for Helldivers 3″—instead, the focus is on supporting Helldivers 2 “for as long as it can go.” He drew a comparison to RuneScape, illustrating his desire for the game to remain relevant and continually updated for many years. While RuneScape eventually saw updated sequels, Helldivers 2’s immense success, nine years after its predecessor, might suggest a more timely follow-up. Yet, Jorjani’s commitment is clear.
Earlier this month, Jorjani’s comments about a potential Destiny-style social hub seemed to hint at Helldivers 3. He later clarified, however, that he was referring to a future, unannounced game from Arrowhead, not necessarily a direct Helldivers sequel.
The game recently received a major update titled “Into the Unjust” in September. This update, however, introduced several challenges, leading Arrowhead to temporarily remove the Rupture Strain subfaction and release a patch addressing cave crashes and audio bugs. The studio has acknowledged a broader range of performance issues, stability hiccups, freezes, and persistent audio problems that they are actively working to resolve. An October update is planned, though some of the more complex fixes may require additional development time.
Accompanying the “Into the Unjust” update, an image gallery showcased the new Dust Devils Warbond, featuring a variety of exciting skins, guns, and rewards for players to unlock and enjoy.
