The highly anticipated Asus ROG Xbox Ally gaming handheld is almost here, with its global launch just weeks away. As units begin to ship worldwide, details about the device are rapidly surfacing. The latest leak offers a significant clue regarding the Asus ROG Xbox Ally’s price and potential pre-order availability, hinting at a surprisingly affordable price point of approximately $549 – a figure considerably lower than earlier predictions.
Update: September 26, 2025 – Official pricing and pre-order dates for the Xbox Ally have now been announced. More details are available in our dedicated coverage.
It’s important to clarify that this leaked price pertains to the standard Asus ROG Xbox Ally, not the more powerful Xbox Ally X, which is expected to be a contender for the top spot among gaming handhelds. Previous leaks suggested the Xbox Ally X could retail for close to $1,000. However, even the lower-spec Xbox Ally appears to be a highly capable device, and this new pricing makes it an incredibly attractive option for a wide range of gamers.
This intriguing information originated from an employee at the British retailer, Argos. The worker shared images of what seem to be in-store promotional materials featuring a variety of tech products, including Asus and Lenovo laptops, Samsung smartphones, and the Asus ROG Xbox Ally. The promotional image distinctly shows the handheld priced at £499.99. A straightforward conversion places this at just over $670.
However, it’s common for UK tech pricing to align more closely with US prices, often due to differences in sales tax. For instance, the existing ROG Ally X model is priced at £799.99 in the UK and $899.99 in the US. In other cases, pricing can be almost identical, as seen with the Razer Deathadder V4 Pro gaming mouse at £169.99 and $169.99. If we remove the UK’s VAT from the leaked price and convert directly, it works out to approximately $560. This makes a US price of $549 highly plausible, and it could even be as low as $499.
While the promotional images don’t explicitly state a pre-order date, the individual who shared these photos indicated that they had seen information suggesting pre-orders would begin “tomorrow” – meaning the day the leak originally surfaced. As of now, official pre-orders haven’t commenced, but there’s still a possibility for that to change throughout the day.

When we look at the specifications of the Xbox Ally compared to the Xbox Ally X, the current ROG Ally X, and the Steam Deck OLED, it’s clear that the lower-spec Xbox Ally represents a significant reduction in power compared to its higher-end counterpart. In fact, its specifications are even a step below the ROG Ally X. Nevertheless, if Microsoft has successfully optimized the Windows operating system and its user interface for this handheld, it could still emerge as an incredibly appealing and budget-friendly option, poised to directly challenge the Steam Deck in both price and performance.
Does this rumored price for the Asus ROG Xbox Ally make you eager to pre-order, or do you find its specifications a bit too modest for a new handheld launching in late 2025? We’d love to hear your thoughts!
