Official Asus ROG Xbox Ally X price and pre-orders released.
We’re just weeks away from the much-hyped Asus ROG Xbox Ally gaming handheld launch, and as stock begins to ship worldwide, leaks about the device are turning from an occasional drip to a steady stream. The latest revelation offers a strong hint at the base Asus ROG Xbox Ally price and pre-order date, suggesting it could debut at around $549 – much less than many anticipated!
It’s important to note that this rumored price is for the standard Asus ROG Xbox Ally, not the more powerful Xbox Ally X model, which is expected to be a contender for the top spot on many ‘best gaming handheld’ lists. Earlier whispers hinted that the Xbox Ally X could approach $1,000. However, even the standard Xbox Ally promises to be a capable device, and this leak positions it as an incredibly attractive option for many buyers.
The source of this leak is a store employee at British retailer Argos, who snapped photos of what appear to be in-store promotional displays. These posters showcased various tech products, including Asus and Lenovo laptops, Samsung phones, and prominently, the Asus ROG Xbox Ally. The image clearly displays a price of £499.99 for the device.
While a direct conversion from £499.99 puts it at roughly $670, UK tech prices often align more closely with US prices due to differences in sales tax. For instance, the current ROG Ally X sells for £799.99 in the UK and $899.99 in the US. Some devices, like a particular Razer gaming mouse, are even priced identically in both currencies (£169.99 and $169.99). If we factor out VAT from the UK price and convert, it lands around $560. This makes a $549 price point, or even a $499 price, seem entirely plausible for the US market.
Although the exact pre-order launch isn’t visible in the leaked image, the Reddit poster claimed to have seen information indicating that pre-orders would begin ‘tomorrow,’ which, at the time of their post, would have been today. As of now, pre-orders haven’t officially started, but there’s still time for that to change throughout the day.

When we compare the Xbox Ally’s specifications to its more advanced sibling, the Xbox Ally X, the original ROG Ally X, and the Steam Deck OLED, the base Xbox Ally does represent a significant step down in power, even sporting lower specs than the initial ROG Ally X. However, if Microsoft has done an excellent job optimizing Windows and its user interface for this handheld, it could still emerge as a highly attractive, budget-friendly option. Its price and specs would place it in direct competition with the popular Steam Deck.
Does this rumored, surprisingly affordable Asus ROG Xbox Ally price tag make you want to secure your pre-order? Or do you find its specifications a bit too modest for a brand-new handheld launching in late 2025? We’d love to hear your thoughts!
