Mumbai’s renowned death metal powerhouse, Demonic Resurrection, is gearing up to headline the 13th annual Brutal Carnage festival on September 27th. This highly anticipated performance marks a significant milestone: the band’s 25th anniversary, and their first return to Chennai in a decade, promising a night of electrifying heavy music.
As a centerpiece of Metal Chennai’s esteemed ‘Brutal Carnage’ festival – now in its 13th year – Demonic Resurrection will be joined by an impressive lineup of local talent. Chennai’s own metalcore veterans, Godia, and the innovative alt-prog rock band, Perception Delta, are slated as supporting acts. The event will unfold at The Spotted Deer, a dynamic new venue quickly becoming a hub for emerging music.
Often described as a symphonic death metal band with a distinctive melodic flair, Demonic Resurrection was founded in 2000 by Sahil ‘Demonstealer’. He has remained the unwavering core of the band through various lineup changes over two decades. Adding fresh energy to their ranks is Chennai native Nikhil Rajkumar, who recently joined as their new drummer.
Earlier this year, Demonic Resurrection gained further international recognition by being featured during Indian folk metal sensation Bloodywood’s European tour.
Antara Arvind, the powerful lead vocalist of Perception Delta, articulates the spirit of Chennai’s metal community: ‘It’s about amplifying voices that defy the mainstream current.’ However, this doesn’t mean they’re entirely niche. As Srikanth, one of Brutal Carnage’s organizers, notes, ‘metalheads are a dedicated, albeit shrinking, breed.’

Srikanth emphasizes the event’s core mission: ‘The goal is to rejuvenate Chennai’s metal music scene. It’s essential to gather passionate, driven musicians and highlight the incredible talent our city possesses.’
Reflecting on their silver jubilee, a band member expresses, ‘Returning to Chennai for our 25th anniversary feels truly surreal. We’ve certainly evolved immensely as a band. While various influences have shaped us, the raw power and unforgettable experience of a Demonic Resurrection performance remain constant.’
Isaiah Anderson, guitarist for Godia, shares his excitement: ‘We are immense fans of Demonic Resurrection, so sharing the stage with them is a true honor.’ He recounts how, during their formative years at the ‘musically revered Madras Christian College,’ Godia drew inspiration from headlining acts like Demonic Resurrection while boldly forging their unique sound.
Isaiah acknowledges the comparisons: ‘We often hear similarities to bands like Meshuggah and Tesseract. We understand the importance of connecting with the crowd. Ultimately, though, we identify as a modern metalcore band.’
The 13th Brutal Carnage promises an intricate tapestry of unbridled rawness, vividly showcased in the performing artists’ passionate creations. More than just a concert, this event heralds a paradigm shift, actively deconstructing outdated perceptions of metal music, track by powerful track. It embodies the very essence and rallying cry of metal: a fierce rebellion against entrenched, oppressive authorities.
Don’t miss out! Demonic Resurrection, Godia, and Perception Delta will take the stage live at The Spotted Deer on September 27th, with the show kicking off at 7 PM. Secure your tickets through Metal Chennai’s social media channels or directly at the venue.
