Bollywood’s much-anticipated film, Dostana 2, has been shrouded in mystery for years, with fans questioning its very existence. Initially announced in 2019 with Kartik Aaryan, Janhvi Kapoor, and Lakshya, the project hit a snag when Kartik Aaryan was reportedly ousted. Now, the buzz is back with National Award winner Vikrant Massey confirming his leading role in the film, marking his debut with Dharma Productions. He will be sharing the screen with Lakshya.
Massey shared the exciting news in a candid interview shortly after receiving his National Award alongside Shah Rukh Khan. “I think this news is already out. I don’t know why I’m not talking. I’m doing Dostana 2. I’m doing my first Dharma movie,” he stated.
Adding to the intrigue, Massey teased a significant transformation for his character in Dostana 2. He revealed that audiences will see him in a more glamorous avatar, complete with designer outfits and stylish sunglasses, a departure from his previous grounded roles. The film is also expected to have a glamorous European backdrop.
When quizzed about Janhvi Kapoor’s potential involvement as the ‘desi girl,’ Massey played coy, suggesting that the big announcement should come from Karan Johar himself. This statement might disappoint fans hoping for a reunion of Janhvi and Kartik, or perhaps a confirmation of Janhvi’s continued presence in the film. However, Massey did confirm Lakshya’s involvement, adding, “Lakshya is a part of the movie. But let the girl be a surprise.”
Dostana 2 is envisioned as a spiritual successor to the beloved 2008 hit Dostana, which starred Priyanka Chopra Jonas, John Abraham, and Abhishek Bachchan. The original film was celebrated for its humour and heartwarming narrative, and the anticipation is high to see if Dostana 2 can capture the same magic.
