Fans have been eagerly awaiting news on Marvel’s Wolverine since its reveal at PlayStation Showcase four years ago. The wait is finally over! Sony’s State of Play livestream recently delivered a thrilling new gameplay trailer for the superhero slasher, confirming earlier reports of a gritty, action-packed experience. Insomniac Games, known for the Spider-Man series, has promised that their next superhero adventure will be exclusively available on PS5 in fall 2026.
The exhilarating two-minute trailer offered a detailed glimpse into Logan’s brutal combat style, showcasing his iconic adamantium claws tearing through enemies with ease. Any previous concerns about the game toning down the violence were immediately dispelled; Marvel’s Wolverine embraces an R-rated intensity. The trailer featured the beloved mutant slicing through both human and cyborg adversaries, leaving behind a trail of blood and dismembered limbs. His intentions are made clear through the accompanying voiceover: “I ain’t no hero. I’m Wolverine.”
The trailer also included an embedded video showcasing the gameplay.
Wolverine’s Voice Actor Revealed
Insomniac Games also announced that the legendary Wolverine, also known as James “Logan” Howlett, will be voiced by Liam McIntyre. McIntyre is renowned for his lead role in the second and third seasons of the “Spartacus” TV series. His previous video game credits include JD Fenix in “Gears of War 4” and “Gears 5,” and the compelling Taron Malicos in “Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.” Notably, McIntyre follows in the footsteps of Hugh Jackman, becoming the second Australian actor to bring Wolverine to life, a testament to the character’s global appeal.
Expressing his excitement, McIntyre shared in an Insomniac Games featurette released after the State of Play trailer: “It’s one of the greatest honors of my life. One of the biggest responsibilities I’ve ever had. And one of the coolest things I’ve ever got to do.”
A ‘True’ Wolverine Experience
During the featurette, Insomniac elaborated on their design philosophy for Marvel’s Wolverine. Creative director Marcus Smith addressed a common fan question: “Are you going to make a Wolverine game that is as violent, as visceral as the character in the comics?” He affirmed the studio’s commitment, stating, “The entire game is built around staying true to the Wolverine experience.”
Furthermore, Insomniac confirmed that players will embark on a globe-trotting adventure with Wolverine, exploring diverse locations such as the rugged Canadian wilderness, the vibrant landscapes of Japan, and the fictional, intriguing island of Madripoor, a staple in X-Men comics. The game will also boast an expanded roster of well-known Marvel characters, with Mystique making an appearance in the new trailer. Insomniac teased that the trailer contains subtle clues hinting at other familiar faces that dedicated Wolverine fans will undoubtedly recognize.

Unfortunately, in this world, he’ll have to dig his claws deep to pull any shred of information that may lead to answers,” characterizing the game as a “global thriller.”
Insomniac concluded by unveiling Wolverine’s captivating cover art and announcing plans to share further details about the game in spring 2026. Marvel’s Wolverine is set to be a PlayStation 5 exclusive, launching in fall 2026.
