During his address at the United Nations General Assembly, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan once again brought up the Kashmir issue. He expressed his nation’s satisfaction with the ceasefire achieved earlier this year between India and Pakistan, which followed a period of intense conflict. President Erdogan underscored the importance of collaboration between India and Pakistan, particularly in global counter-terrorism efforts. He asserted that the Kashmir dispute should be resolved peacefully through dialogue, aligning with United Nations resolutions, for the welfare of the people in the region.
This marks another instance in recent years where the Turkish leader has addressed the Kashmir matter at the high-level UN session; notably, he did not mention Kashmir in his speech last year. The earlier tensions in April saw India launch ‘Operation Sindoor’ targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan-controlled territories, in response to a deadly attack in Pahalgam. This led to four intense days of clashes, which concluded with an understanding to halt military actions in May.
