Let’s be honest, there’s little more frustrating in gaming than encountering a cheater. It drains the fun for everyone involved. Unless you’re messing around with cheat codes in a single-player sandbox like Grand Theft Auto or The Sims, unfair advantages have no place in competitive multiplayer. This sentiment is strongly echoed by the community playing Broken Arrow, a real-time strategy game where players have been vocal about the urgent need for robust anti-cheat measures. Fortunately, developer Steel Balalaika has finally addressed these pressing concerns.
In a recent press release, Steel Balalaika confirmed that the anti-cheat system, a consistent point of contention for its player base, is now their utmost priority. They stated, “The team is actively working on improving this area with the goal of ensuring a fair experience for everyone,” signaling a much-needed commitment to tackling in-game dishonesty.
However, players eager for immediate bans will need to exercise a little more patience. Steel Balalaika plans to implement bans for multiplayer cheaters only after the upcoming patch 1.09 is released. This strategic delay allows them to streamline the process, reduce appeal overload, and focus specifically on competitive integrity, rather than ‘harmless’ campaign cheats. For Broken Arrow to truly shine among the top RTS titles, this dedication to fair play is absolutely critical.
To further bolster their efforts, the studio has expanded its team by hiring an additional staff member solely dedicated to handling cheat reports and appeals. They are also developing more sophisticated tools to analyze game statistics and identify suspicious anomalies.
Beyond just anti-cheat, Steel Balalaika is also introducing a leaver’s penalty, designed to discourage players from rage-quitting matches. Complementing this, a new surrender option will be added for situations where victory is truly out of reach. These two features are intended to work together, ensuring a more consistent and fair match experience for everyone.
Looking ahead, the developers are also planning enhancements to advanced telemetry, customer support, faction balancing, and overall server stability. However, the immediate Update 1.09 will primarily focus on a minor balance adjustment, tweaks to the lobby creation interface, and the much-requested ability to restart campaign missions.
