When Riot Games first teased expanding beyond their flagship title, League of Legends, in the late 2010s, a fighting game might not have been at the top of many prediction lists. Yet, that’s precisely what they delivered: a thrilling tag-team brawler initially known as Project L, now officially titled 2XKO. After more than six years since its initial confirmation and a development journey filled with twists and turns, we finally have a concrete early access launch date! In just two weeks, PC gamers can dive headfirst into 2XKO’s highly anticipated Season 0.
Following years of exciting character reveals, hushed playtests, public betas, memorable EVO appearances, and a few development delays, the release date for 2XKO is now officially confirmed. Riot has a strong track record with successful League of Legends spin-offs, including Teamfight Tactics, Legends of Runeterra, and even their physical card game, Riftbound. Even Valorant, a departure from the LoL IP, has seen widespread success. This sets a high bar for 2XKO as it enters a fiercely competitive genre already populated by iconic long-standing titles and beloved cult classics. However, 2XKO stands out with its innovative 2v2 tag-team combat, its free-to-play model on PC, and the immense, dedicated fanbase of the League of Legends universe, all of which position it for a strong launch.
Upon the commencement of early access next month, 2XKO Season 0 will kick off immediately. This inaugural season promises the introduction of a mysterious new fighter, which Riot is currently keeping under wraps, bringing the total roster of characters to a solid ten. Players can anticipate the typical array of enticing live service rewards, with Riot assuring that all unlocked fighters, cosmetics, and mastery achievements from Season 0 will be permanent additions to your collection – guaranteeing that this isn’t just a trial run, but a meaningful start to your journey.
As 2026 unfolds, 2XKO will transition into its full seasonal rhythm. Riot plans to roll out five new seasons throughout the year, suggesting a new season approximately every two and a half months. Each of these will introduce another brand-new fighter, a truly impressive commitment to continuous content.
Naturally, for a competitive title from Riot, a robust esports scene for 2XKO is practically guaranteed. To make an immediate splash, Riot is launching ‘First Impact,’ an initiative supporting 22 community-run tournaments with prize money and exclusive in-game rewards, including a ‘Local Legend’ title for event victors. These tournaments are set to span the Americas, Europe, and Asia, with the very first event, Evo France: 2 NICE KO, kicking off just three days post-launch.
The long-awaited moment has finally arrived! 2XKO will enter early access for PC players on Tuesday, October 7th. And don’t forget the best part: it’s entirely free to play!
To truly embrace the competitive spirit, you might want to explore some top-tier multiplayer games. And if your gaming rig needs a performance boost before a wave of new releases, consider consulting a guide for the best graphics cards.
