Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas has confirmed the highly anticipated launch of the AI-powered Comet browser in India on September 22. For desktop users, the browser is already available for macOS and Windows, offering an advanced browsing experience. Simultaneously, Android users now have the opportunity to pre-register for the app. However, the iOS version of the Comet browser is not yet available in the country. This innovative web browser, developed by the company behind the popular AI answer engine, first debuted in July 2025 and is currently exclusive to Perplexity Pro users.
Comet Browser Makes Its Debut in India
In a recent announcement on X (formerly known as Twitter), Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas officially declared that the Comet browser has arrived in India, initially rolling out for desktop users. Both Windows and macOS versions of this AI-driven browser are now available for download. It’s important to note, however, that access is presently limited to Perplexity Pro subscribers, meaning free-tier users cannot yet utilize the platform.
Srinivas also highlighted that the Android version of the Comet browser has been listed on Android, and is now open for pre-registration. The exact release date for the Android app on the Google Play Store remains unconfirmed. Meanwhile, the absence of an iOS App Store listing indicates that the browser’s launch for Apple devices in India may still be some time away.
The Comet browser leverages the same powerful AI models that fuel the core Perplexity platform. A standout feature is its integrated AI-powered sidebar assistant, specifically designed to streamline user interactions across multiple open tabs and projects. For instance, if you have five to ten e-commerce websites open, all displaying the same product page, you can simply ask the AI assistant to identify which website offers the fastest delivery, significantly simplifying your shopping experience.
Perplexity has further elaborated that the AI sidebar boasts sophisticated “agentic capabilities.” This means users can issue straightforward text-based instructions to the AI assistant to perform complex tasks, such as booking a meeting, converting a webpage into an email and sending it, or even facilitating a product purchase. Perplexity is committed to continuously enhancing the browser, with plans to introduce even more innovative features in the near future.
