Exciting news has just hit the world of manga and anime! A live-action film adaptation for the incredibly popular series, *Sakamoto Days*, has been officially announced. Fans eager for more of Taro Sakamoto’s thrilling adventures can rejoice, as this project was revealed in the latest issue of *Weekly Shonen Jump* magazine, with promises of more details to be unveiled in the near future. The 43rd issue of *Jump* proudly featured the reveal, highlighting *Sakamoto Days* as its prominent series.
For those unfamiliar, *Sakamoto Days* is the brainchild of Yuto Suzuki, a gripping manga series that began its serialization in *Weekly Shonen Jump* on November 21, 2020. It has since captivated readers, accumulating 23 collected volumes in Japan and 18 translated English volumes. Beyond the printed page, the series is also set to expand its universe with an anime adaptation, directed by Masaki Watanabe of *Bartender* fame and produced by TMS Entertainment, which is scheduled to premiere in January 2025, with streaming available on Netflix.
The manga itself is released weekly on the Shonen Jump app and through VIZ Media, which perfectly encapsulates the story: ‘Time has passed peacefully for Sakamoto since he left the underworld. He’s running a neighborhood store with his lovely wife and child and has gotten a bit…out of shape. But one day a figure from his past pays him a visit with an offer he can’t refuse: return to the assassin world or die!’ This new live-action film promises to bring this unique blend of action, comedy, and heart to life on the big screen, offering a fresh perspective on Sakamoto’s attempts to balance his past as a legendary assassin with his current, seemingly mundane, family life.
