The renowned British artist Morrissey, whose real name is Steven Morrissey, has made the difficult decision to cancel two scheduled U.S. concerts. This cancellation comes after a serious death threat was issued against him prior to a performance in Ottawa, Canada.
The incident involved a 26-year-old man from Ottawa, who has since been released on bail. He allegedly made a death threat targeting the singer ahead of his appearance at a music festival last week. While the festival proceeded as planned, the security concerns prompted the subsequent cancellation of Morrissey’s shows in Massachusetts and Connecticut.
Morrissey, widely recognized as the former frontman of the iconic band The Smiths, embarked on a successful solo career after departing the group in 1987. He is known for his passionate advocacy on various social issues, including animal welfare and political matters. Notably, in 2006, he expressed his protest against the annual seal hunt by refusing to tour in Canada.
Following the threat made in Ottawa, a statement from the Boston venue confirmed the cancellation of the MGM Music Hall at Fenway concert. “Out of an abundance of caution for the safety of both the artist and the band, tomorrow’s engagement at the MGM Music Hall at Fenway has been canceled,” the statement read, underscoring the seriousness of the situation.
