A US federal judge has dismissed Donald Trump’s $15 billion defamation lawsuit against The New York Times. The judge, Steven Merryday, stated that the lawsuit did not meet federal rules, specifically those requiring a clear and concise statement of why relief is being sought from the court. The judge remarked that a legal complaint should not serve as a platform for “raging against an adversary.” Trump has been granted 28 days to refile an amended complaint.
Earlier this week, Trump had announced his intention to sue the New York Times via a post on Truth Social, expressing his frustration that the newspaper had been “allowed to freely lie, smear and defame me for far too long.”
