Excitement is building for the highly anticipated TV anime adaptation of the beloved four-panel comic, “Ichijoma Mankitsu Gurashi!” — also known as “Living in a One-Tatami Room!” To mark the occasion, a series of engaging “question and answer” videos featuring the four main characters — Meiko Morita, Rie Amamiya, Marika Suzuki, and Neo Nakano — has just been released. Fans in Japan can mark their calendars, as the series is set to begin broadcasting in April 2026.
Based on Kumako Hisama’s original manga, “Ichijoma Mankitsu Gurashi!” has captivated readers since its serialization began in Houbunsha’s Manga Time Kirara magazine in 2018, with four volumes published to date. The story introduces us to Meiko Morita, a second-year high school student embarking on a new chapter as she leaves the countryside for the bustling metropolis of Tokyo to attend a new school. Her adventure truly begins when she finds herself living and working at Hedgehog, a unique manga cafe that also functions as a girls’ dormitory. Here, Meiko encounters a vibrant and memorable cast of characters, promising plenty of heartwarming and humorous moments.
Bringing this delightful story to life is a talented team: Toshinori Watanabe, known for his work on “Tokyo Ghoul:re,” directs the TV anime adaptation at the renowned animation studio PRA. Tatsuya Takahashi is handling the series composition, with character designs expertly crafted by Fumiya Uehara (“9-nine- Ruler’s Crown”). The beautiful soundtrack is being composed by MONACA. With these new character trailers, fans have a wonderful opportunity to connect with the personalities that will soon grace their screens, setting the stage for an unforgettable viewing experience.
