Apple’s latest generation of devices, including the iPhone 17 series, iPhone Air, Apple Watch Series 11, and AirPods Pro 3, are now globally available following their grand ‘Awe Dropping’ debut on September 9. However, initial reviews are quickly highlighting some unexpected issues. Notably, both the iPhone Air and iPhone 17 Pro are experiencing a camera bug that causes mysterious black boxes to appear in captured photos. Apple is reportedly already working on a software solution to rectify this.
Apple Confirms Fix for iPhone Air, iPhone 17 Pro Camera Glitch
Apple is indeed gearing up to release a software update to resolve the camera bug impacting the iPhone Air and iPhone 17 Pro. This issue was first brought to light by CNN Underscored reviewer Henry Casey during an iPhone Air review. Casey observed black boxes appearing in photos, particularly during concert shots. He reported that approximately one out of every ten photos taken with the iPhone Air or iPhone 17 Pro exhibited “small blacked-out portions, including boxes and parts of white squiggles.” This anomaly seemed to originate from the exceptionally bright LED displays present at the concert venue.
According to Apple’s statement to Casey, this bug is a rare occurrence, appearing only when an extremely bright LED display is aimed directly at the camera. The company has confirmed that a solution has been developed and will be deployed in a future software update. However, an exact release date for this patch has not yet been provided.
The iPhone Air, measuring a mere 5.6mm, holds the title of Apple’s thinnest iPhone to date. Constructed with 80 percent recycled titanium and fortified by Ceramic Shield 2 for enhanced durability, this device boasts a 6.5-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display with 120Hz ProMotion. It’s powered by a binned A19 Pro chip, offering Apple Intelligence support, and features the new N1 chip for Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 connectivity.
Camera specifications for the iPhone Air include a 48-megapixel Fusion main camera and an 18-megapixel front camera. Users can expect up to 27 hours of video playback on a single charge. Pricing in India starts at Rs. 1,19,900 for the 256GB model, with the 512GB and 1TB variants available for Rs. 1,39,900 and Rs. 1,59,900, respectively. Color options include Space Black, Cloud White, Light Gold, and Sky Blue.
In parallel, the iPhone 17 Pro showcases a unibody aluminum design, featuring a distinct full-width camera plateau that marks a departure from the titanium builds of previous Pro models. This device is the first from Apple to incorporate vapor chamber cooling and boasts a 6.3-inch Super Retina XDR 120Hz display with an impressive 3,000 nits of brightness. Its Ceramic Shield 2 protection is also touted to offer three times better scratch resistance.
The iPhone 17 Pro is driven by the advanced A19 Pro chip and features a sophisticated 48-megapixel triple rear camera system, complete with an 8x telephoto lens. For selfies and video calls, it includes an 18-megapixel front camera. Running on iOS 26, the device also integrates Apple’s new suite of Intelligence AI tools. Pricing begins at Rs. 1,34,900 for the 256GB model, with the 512GB and 1TB options costing Rs. 1,54,900 and Rs. 1,74,900, respectively. Available colors are Cosmic Orange, Deep Blue, and Silver.
