The Celestial Spectacle of 2025: A Deep Dive into the Last Partial Solar Eclipse

The Last Solar Eclipse of the Year Approaches!

Just a few days after the breathtaking Total Lunar Eclipse, or ‘Blood Moon’, another celestial event is on the horizon: a partial solar eclipse scheduled for September 21, 2025. This will be the fourth and final eclipse of the year. A partial solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth, partially obscuring the Sun’s disk from our view. Let’s delve into the details of this fascinating ‘Surya Grahan’.

Partial Solar Eclipse 2025: Will India witness the last Surya Grahan of the year?

When is the Solar Eclipse in September 2025?

The final solar eclipse of 2025 will take place on September 21st. During this partial eclipse, the Moon will obscure up to 85% of the Sun in certain regions. The event is set to begin at 10:59 PM IST, reach its peak at 1:11 AM IST on September 22nd, and conclude at 3:23 AM IST.

Will India witness this Partial Solar Eclipse?

Regrettably, Indian skywatchers will not have the opportunity to directly observe this Surya Grahan. The Sun will have already set in India during the eclipse’s duration, making it invisible from the country. The best viewing spots for this magnificent display will be across the Southern Hemisphere, particularly in Australia, New Zealand, Antarctica, and various Pacific islands. However, Indian astronomy enthusiasts can still participate by tuning into live global broadcasts and viewing photographs shared by observatories located in the Southern Hemisphere.

Viewers in Australia and New Zealand are expected to have the most impressive sights. In some Antarctic locations, the Moon will cover a significant portion of the Sun. Island communities scattered across the vast Pacific Ocean will also experience a partial dimming of the sky. Unfortunately, regions like India, Europe, Africa, and the Americas will miss out on this particular eclipse.

When will the next Solar Eclipse be visible in India?

Indian skywatchers can look forward to the next solar eclipse on August 2, 2027. This will be a partial solar eclipse, occurring over the country in the late afternoon and early evening hours. It promises to be a rare and interesting event as the Sun becomes partially covered by the Moon.

What defines a Partial Solar Eclipse?

A partial solar eclipse occurs when the Sun, Moon, and Earth are not perfectly aligned. In this alignment, the Moon only covers a portion of the Sun, creating a crescent-shaped solar disk. This upcoming event on September 21st will demonstrate this phenomenon in the South Pacific region.
