Everyone dreams of a smooth start: a good college, a high-paying job, and a clear career path. But for one young engineer, life presented a series of unexpected challenges. Harshil Tomar, the CEO of DreamLaunch, recently shared his incredible journey on X (formerly Twitter), detailing how he turned early disappointments into significant success.
Tomar’s story began at 17 with a singular focus on getting into IIT. However, he faced a major setback, with his initial exam rank being a daunting 1.3 lakh, improving to 75,000 in his next attempt – still far from his goal. This led him to enroll in a Tier-2 college. By age 20, he landed his first job as a software developer, earning a modest $400 (approximately INR 33,000) per month. He admits to hating every moment, often questioning his life choices during his commute.
Despite these hurdles, Tomar was determined not to remain stagnant. During his internship, he dedicated his free time to learning React and Next.js through online tutorials. He also diligently applied for over a hundred jobs daily, focusing his efforts on improving, studying, and applying.
After six months of relentless effort, his persistence paid off. Interview calls started pouring in, and he eventually received three job offers. By 2024, he secured his first remote position. His career trajectory continued to rise, even after being laid off from a role at Hifive, which he saw as another stepping stone.
Today, Harshil Tomar works with major enterprises and earns more from sponsorships than his initial salary. His net revenue has reached an impressive $60,000.
Tomar shared his experience as a message to others: “This is your sign to keep hustling. I had no connections, nothing handed to me.” His story resonated widely online, with many praising his honesty and resilience, calling his journey “raw and real.” It served as an inspiration to many who are navigating their own career challenges.
