The popular MTV show ‘Ridiculousness,’ a staple of entertainment for the past decade and a half, has been canceled by the network, as reported by Entertainment Weekly. The show, which first aired in 2011, spanned an impressive 46 seasons and close to 1,700 episodes, all hosted and created by Rob Dyrdek.
MTV is reportedly planning to introduce new programming that aligns with its “experimental DNA,” a move potentially influenced by the recent merger of Paramount, MTV’s parent company, with Skydance.
‘Ridiculousness’ followed a straightforward format: Rob Dyrdek and celebrity guests would discuss viral video clips found online. Notable guests included personalities like Johnny Knoxville, Pauly Shore, and Howie Mandel.
For Dyrdek, an entrepreneur and former professional skateboarder, the show proved to be a significant financial success. His production company, Superjacket, was responsible for producing ‘Ridiculousness,’ according to IMDB.
Rob Dyrdek’s Earnings from ‘Ridiculousness’
Bloomberg reported that Dyrdek had a highly lucrative contract with MTV, earning a minimum of $32.5 million annually for an estimated 336 episodes. There were discussions about extending this contract, which could have increased his yearly earnings to $45 million, a prospect MTV ultimately declined.
His per-episode earnings were substantial: $21,000 for executive producer fees and $61,000 for on-camera work. The latter amount was not static and was projected to increase to $101,000 by the end of his agreement.
Adding to his compensation, Dyrdek reportedly received a $200 million life insurance policy as part of the agreement between the show’s producers and lenders.
Rob Dyrdek’s Net Worth
Celebrity Net Worth estimates Rob Dyrdek’s total net worth to be $200 million. Beyond his regular fees, he received a $2.5 million bonus each time MTV commissioned an additional 168 episodes of the show.
At 51 years old, Dyrdek has a diverse career as a producer and host across various shows, complemented by his various business ventures, solidifying his reputation as a highly successful entrepreneur and television personality.
