ModRetro has unveiled two exciting additions to its Chromatic Classics Collection. Following the successful re-release of a new Game Boy Color version of Rayman earlier this year, the company is now honoring the beloved Croc and GameStop’s iconic mascot, Buck the Bunny, with fresh physical cartridge editions.
The Croc: 25th Anniversary Edition cartridge revives the charming reptile’s 2000 Game Boy Color platforming adventure. Pre-orders kick off on October 31st (or ‘Croctober 31st’ for dedicated fans!), with an anticipated shipping date of December 2025. This $45 retro title boasts over 30 levels across four distinct worlds. Players will once again guide Croc against Baron Dante and his forces, now with improved controls and enhanced save features.

Meanwhile, Buck and the Cursed Cartridge introduces a brand-new, fast-paced run-and-gun platforming experience from ModRetro. Players will join GameStop’s bunny mascot, Buck, as he’s mysteriously transported into a digital realm by a cursed cartridge, forcing him to battle for survival. This exciting new title features intense multi-phase boss battles, unlockable ability upgrades, and even classic cheat codes. Also priced at $45, it will be available starting October 31st. Both games can be purchased directly from the ModRetro store and GameStop.

A fantastic detail for retro enthusiasts is that despite carrying ModRetro and Chromatic branding, both of these new cartridges are fully compatible with original Nintendo Game Boy Color hardware, as well as modern FPGA handhelds like the Analogue Pocket. For those unfamiliar, the ModRetro Chromatic console itself launched recently, offering a remarkably faithful and upgraded recreation of the Game Boy Color experience. New units of this modernized handheld became available earlier this year, featuring two models: a $200 version with durable Gorilla Glass, and a $300 premium model sporting incredibly robust Sapphire Glass.
In related news, ModRetro previously announced plans for a modern tribute to the classic Nintendo 64 console. While a firm release date is still pending, an early-bird pre-order price of $199 was revealed.
