The India Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA) and the Global Semiconductor Alliance (GSA) have announced a pivotal strategic partnership, designed to accelerate India’s full integration into the worldwide semiconductor supply chain. This collaboration marks a significant step forward for the nation’s technological aspirations.
The ICEA acts as a key industry body, passionately advocating for the growth of India’s electronics manufacturing sector by collaborating with the government on policy, attracting investments, and nurturing innovation. The GSA, based in Dallas, unites the entire global semiconductor industry ecosystem, bringing together leaders and innovators from around the world.
During a joint press conference, officials from both ICEA and GSA highlighted that this alliance is a crucial move to align India’s rapidly expanding domestic semiconductor landscape with established global value chains. The partnership aims to leverage India’s growing pool of talent, its developing fabrication (fab) and Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) infrastructure, and robust government policy support to draw international fabless companies and innovators to co-develop and produce within India.
By blending ICEA’s deep understanding of India’s policy framework and manufacturing capabilities with GSA’s extensive global network of semiconductor pioneers, this collaboration is set to ignite cross-border cooperation, bolster the diversification of supply chains, and firmly establish India as an indispensable contributor to the global semiconductor industry.
Pankaj Mohindroo, Chairman of ICEA, emphasized to the media that “India’s semiconductor journey is at a crucial turning point. Our alliance with GSA is a deliberate strategy to position India as a vital hub within global semiconductor value chains, where innovation, design, and manufacturing seamlessly converge.”
Jodi Shelton, CEO of the Global Semiconductor Alliance (GSA), added, “Together, we can significantly boost India’s capabilities in design, manufacturing, and talent development, while forging essential global connections that enhance resilience and promote mutual growth across all facets of the value chain.”
Amitesh Kumar Sinha, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, and CEO of the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), commented that “The ICEA–GSA partnership is both timely and strategically brilliant. It bridges the global fabless community with India’s burgeoning design and manufacturing infrastructure, paving the way for the emergence of Indian fabless leaders, as well as new Indian foundries and packaging facilities.”
Mr. Sinha further explained that such collaborations are fundamental to addressing the industry’s core requirements: access to cutting-edge technology, skilled talent, and trustworthy global partnerships. “This engagement will be instrumental in accelerating the objectives of the ISM and advancing India’s overarching goal to become a reliable and integral partner in the global semiconductor value chain,” he concluded.
Speaking at the event, Randhir Thakur, Chair of the ICEA Semiconductor Leadership Forum and MD & CEO of Tata Electronics, observed that India is quickly becoming an attractive destination for advancements in semiconductor technology. “This partnership between ICEA and GSA, strongly supported by the ISM, is set to further accelerate this momentum by bringing the global and Indian semiconductor ecosystems closer, offering unparalleled value to customers, design firms, manufacturers, and suppliers alike.”
