During the recent Japan Mobility Show 2025, Honda Motor Co. President and Representative Executive Officer, Toshihiro Mibe, shared exciting plans for the Indian market. His announcement signals a pivotal shift towards electric mobility and a substantial expansion of Honda’s vehicle portfolio in the coming years.
Mibe detailed Honda’s intention to launch ten new models in India by 2030. This impressive lineup will feature a mix of high-volume and premium vehicles, with a particular focus on the booming SUV segment, where seven new models are expected. Mibe highlighted the critical role of the sub-four meter segment in Honda’s Indian growth strategy, indicating a strong commitment to this popular category.
These ten upcoming products for India will comprise both globally recognized models tailored for local preferences and vehicles specifically developed for the unique demands of the Indian market.
Honda is also committed to broadening its hybrid vehicle range, ensuring a comprehensive offering that includes internal combustion engine (ICE), hybrid, and electric vehicles (EVs) across both mass-market and premium segments. Currently, Honda’s Indian lineup features popular models such as the Amaze, City, City e:HEV, and the Elevate SUV.
The automaker firmly reiterated that electric vehicles will form the cornerstone of its future product development. Honda’s global EV initiatives will be powered by the advanced ASIMO OS, a central software system designed to manage automated driving, driver assistance, vehicle dynamics, and digital user experiences. This system will also enable seamless cloud connectivity for real-time services, ongoing software development, and convenient over-the-air updates.
However, the India-specific Alpha EV, while innovative, will initially launch without the ASIMO software. Honda indicated that this advanced system might be integrated at a later stage, depending on local market requirements and conditions.
Furthermore, Honda underscored the increasing importance of its India-based Research and Development (R&D) division. This team will collaborate closely with local suppliers to boost localization efforts and reduce manufacturing costs. The company recognized India’s formidable strengths in software development, noting that over 2000 engineers in India are already contributing to software development for both domestic and global Honda models through a partnership with KPIT.
