Big changes are coming to Pokémon Legends: Z-A, directly addressing player concerns about obtaining crucial Mega Evolution stones. This highly anticipated November patch also includes vital bug fixes.
Initially, trainers were frustrated that the powerful Mega Stones for the beloved Kalos starter Pokémon—Greninja, Delphox, and Chesnaught—were exclusively tied to high ranks in the competitive Z-A Battle Club multiplayer mode. Good news! While online participation is still required, the upcoming competitive season will make earning these valuable items much less challenging.

Before this update, players could only acquire one specific Kalos starter Mega Stone per competitive season. For instance, Season 1 rewarded the Greninjite upon reaching a high rank of K (with ranks ranging from Z to A).
However, starting with Season 2 on Wednesday, November 5th, at 10 PM PT/1 AM ET, acquiring these stones becomes significantly easier. Players who missed Greninja’s Mega Stone can now earn it by reaching just rank Y, a single promotion! Even better, Delphoxite will be available at rank S, a full eight ranks lower than previous top-tier requirements.
It’s anticipated that Chesnaughtite will follow a similar pattern, becoming the Season 3 reward. The Pokémon Company has also confirmed that players will see adjustments to points awarded and an increase in battle rewards, making the competitive experience more rewarding overall.
While these changes are welcome, the system isn’t entirely flawless. Players will still need a Nintendo Switch Online subscription to participate in the online matches necessary to earn these Mega Stones, which many feel should have been available within the base game from the start.
Beyond Mega Stones, a crucial patch arriving in November will tackle two frustrating story progression issues. One bug prevented players from acquiring new Pokémon if their storage boxes were full before a specific mission, and another involved an irritating glitch during the game’s day-night cycle transitions.
These improvements arrive following a highly successful launch for Pokémon Legends: Z-A, which saw impressive retail sales. The popular monster-catching adventure is also set to receive exciting paid DLC, including brand-new Mega Evolutions.
