It’s been a 20-year journey since his debut in Yeh Mohabbat Hai, but actor Rahul Bhat is making a significant return to the screen with an as-yet-untitled love story, starring opposite the ever-graceful Dia Mirza. The film is currently being shot amidst the picturesque landscapes of Nainital, Uttarakhand.
Bhat, who has primarily been recognized for his intense and often darker roles in films like Ugly (2013) and Anurag Kashyap’s Kennedy, expressed his long-standing desire to explore the romance genre. “Strangely, most of my films have been in the dark zone with intense roles,” he noted. “A love story was just not happening.” He shared his delight in finally getting to work on such a project, especially with Dia Mirza, whom he describes as an “eternal beauty, an amazing actor, and a great human being” deeply committed to environmental causes.
The film is helmed by Indo-German director Kanwal Sethi, known for his nuanced exploration of human emotions in his German films and the Hindi movie Once Again. Bhat revealed that the shooting schedule in Nainital and the Jim Corbett National Park commenced on October 24 and is expected to conclude on November 20. The project is being produced by Kovid Gupta and Sanjay Gulati.
Reflecting on his busy year, Bhat mentioned the release of his OTT series and upcoming projects. “It is turning out to be a fantastic year,” he shared. “I shot for the Hollywood film Lost & Found during Mahakumbh and in Europe. Black Warrant went off well and we are in talks for the second season. I have also shot for Madhur Bhandarkar’s film The Wives and two other OTT series.” With Kennedy awaiting its release after making waves on the festival circuit, Bhat feels a sense of gratitude, stating, “God is kind.”
