Launching a new video game amidst titans like Battlefield and Call of Duty often evokes memories of challenging releases, much like Titanfall 2 once faced. Yet, Arc Raiders is boldly stepping into this competitive arena, set to debut on October 30. This launch places it squarely between the recent release of Battlefield 6 (which also saw the free-to-play Battlefield RedSec arrive this week) and the upcoming Black Ops 7 on November 14. Despite the fierce competition, the leadership behind Arc Raiders remains confident.
In an interview with The Game Business, Embark Studios co-founder Patrick Soderlund was directly asked about the decision to release Arc Raiders amidst two of the year’s biggest shooters. “I know. The insanity,” Soderlund quipped. “People might look at that and say, ‘What on earth are they thinking?’ We’ve meticulously analyzed this from every angle, and for better or worse, we genuinely believe the game can succeed in this launch window. This is merely the beginning of a long journey, and every journey has to start somewhere.”

Arc Raiders has already shown promising signs of success. Earlier this month, the extraction shooter garnered impressive player numbers on Steam during its “server slam” playtest. Embark Studios has also been monitoring the initial reception of Arc Raiders in comparison to Marathon, another extraction shooter currently in development at Bungie.
Soderlund, who previously served as CEO at DICE (the studio behind the Battlefield franchise), admitted to moments of doubt regarding Arc Raiders‘ market potential. “A couple of years ago, I was genuinely concerned about Arc Raiders and whether it would carve out its own niche,” he revealed. However, he was “absolutely blown away by the sheer number of people who participated” in the game’s closed technical test back in May.
Interestingly, Arc Raiders wasn’t always conceived as an extraction shooter. Embark Studios initially planned a free-to-play model before shifting to a $40 premium release. The game will be available across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S platforms.
