For those still holding out hope for a Bully sequel, prepare for an exciting surprise! While an official Bully 2 might remain a distant dream, a passionate team of modders has created the next best thing for enthusiasts of Rockstar’s cherished open-world adventure. Dubbed ‘Bully Online,’ this ambitious fan project is set to deliver a multiplayer experience akin to Grand Theft Auto Online, and incredibly, it’s expected to be playable before Grand Theft Auto 6 even arrives.
Spearheaded by YouTuber ‘Swegta,’ who previously contributed to a similar multiplayer mod for Bully, ‘Bully Online’ is a labor of love by fans of the original game, known as Canis Canem Edit in some regions. A recent trailer and detailed breakdown on Swegta’s channel showcased what players can look forward to. The mod aims to blend the familiar free-roaming and exploration of Bullworth Academy with engaging minigames that players can enjoy together. A core element drawing inspiration from GTA Online’s success, roleplaying, will also be heavily encouraged and supported within the mod.
In ‘Bully Online,’ players can earn money by participating in various minigames, undertaking side quests, and trading found items. This in-game currency can then be spent on personalizing your Bullworth experience, acquiring housing, weapons, vehicles, and other unique items. The mod also features thoughtful role-playing mechanics, such as vehicle keys, allowing players to secure their rides and prevent theft by others.
The minigames promise a diverse and sometimes unconventional experience. Beyond typical races and last-player-standing brawls, one standout mode is ‘Rat Wars,’ which transforms Bully into an unexpected first-person shooter. By interacting with TV screens scattered across the overworld, players can queue up for these matches, where they become giant rodents armed with pistols and sniper rifles. While standard firearms are intentionally absent from the main server to maintain the classic Bully atmosphere, ‘Rat Wars’ exemplifies the mod’s willingness to experiment with different genres.
Swegta’s latest announcement confirms that early supporters of ‘Bully Online’ will gain access to the game as early as December of this year. Patronage of the project also comes with exclusive in-game benefits, including a special blue nametag and priority queuing in the server. The full version of ‘Bully Online’ is slated for release sometime in 2026, marking a significant milestone as it coincides with the original Canis Canem Edit’s 20th anniversary.
After the challenges faced by previous Bully multiplayer projects, the community has high hopes that ‘Bully Online’ will successfully land its ambitious vision, especially with its strong emphasis on roleplaying and innovative minigames. It truly is remarkable to witness a beloved Rockstar title receiving such a fresh, new way to play, all while the wait for Grand Theft Auto 6 continues.
