A tragic incident has unfolded in Karachi, where a journalist was murdered by activists linked to an extremist Islamist group. The Sindh province Home Minister confirmed that the killing was a direct response to the journalist’s pro-Israel comments made on his television channel.
Authorities have successfully apprehended four suspected militants in connection with the murder of journalist and anchorperson Imtiaz Mir. Mir was gunned down on September 21 as he departed his office in the Malir area of Karachi.
Home Minister Ziaul Hasan Lanjhar stated on Monday, October 27, 2025, that investigations revealed the journalist was targeted because the killers perceived him as a sympathizer of Israel, based on his public remarks.
During a press conference, Inspector General of Sindh Police Ghulam Nabi Memon and city police chief Javed Alam Odho informed the media that the four arrested individuals confessed to carrying out the assassination under orders from a handler based outside Pakistan.
Mr. Memon described the suspects as ‘educated’ individuals, noting that their ringleader is currently residing in an undisclosed neighboring country.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Ajlal Zaidi, Shahab Asghar, Ahsan Abbas, and Faraz Ahmed. They are reportedly associated with ‘Lashkar Sarullah,’ a faction of the banned Zainabiyoun Brigade.
The Inspector General further elaborated that two federal intelligence agencies collaborated with the Karachi police throughout the investigation, leading to all apprehended suspects confessing their involvement in the heinous crime.
It was also revealed that one of the suspects had a previous criminal record, indicating a history of illicit activities.
IGP Memon concluded by stating that spent bullet casings recovered from the crime scene in Kala Board, Malir, conclusively matched pistols seized from the custody of the arrested suspects, solidifying their connection to the murder.
