Following widespread outrage, Bihar Police have addressed a viral video depicting an alleged incident of misbehavior by police officers towards a brother and sister at a restaurant in Katihar. The police department announced on social media that it has taken “cognisance of the matter” and has issued a show-cause notice to the concerned personnel.
The controversial video captures a police officer confronting a man, questioning his relationship with the woman accompanying him. When the man identifies her as his sister, the officer reportedly begins shouting, allegedly abusing his authority. The situation escalates when the woman starts recording the interaction, and the police officers demand she stop.
In their statement, Bihar Police shared information from the Katihar Police, detailing that they visited the restaurant based on a tip-off about “anti-social elements.” The department claimed that the brother and sister duo misbehaved with the officers when asked for their identification. The station head officer promptly reported the incident to the SDPO Barsoi, and a formal report was filed at the police station. Further action is reportedly underway.
However, the police’s response has not appeased social media users, with many criticizing the alleged misuse of authority and calling for stricter action against the officers involved.
