Unearthing the Undead: A Deep Dive into Treyarch’s Call of Duty Zombies Art Book

October 28, 2025
in Gaming
Reading Time: 4 min

For nearly three decades, Call of Duty has dominated the video game landscape, largely thanks to the phenomenal success of its Zombies mode. What started as a bonus feature in 2008’s Call of Duty: World at War has since blossomed into a beloved staple, appearing in 13 titles, including the highly anticipated Black Ops 7, set to release this November. To honor this enduring legacy, Treyarch is releasing a dedicated hardcover art book, Call of Duty Zombies: The Art of Treyarch.

This impressive 256-page hardcover offers an unprecedented look into the origins and evolution of the fan-favorite mode. It’s packed with exclusive behind-the-scenes interviews with the development team, never-before-seen artwork from the Call of Duty vaults, and in-depth intel on the creative process. Written by James Asmus, known for his work in books, comics, video games, and television, this book promises to be a treasure for any fan. The book launches on June 16, 2026, and is available for preorder at $50.

More Call of Duty Books and Graphic Novels

Beyond this exciting new art book, the Call of Duty universe is rich with other published works, perfect for deepening your appreciation of the franchise:

  • Making Call of Duty: Modern Warfare: A 192-page hardcover offering an inside look at the development of the groundbreaking game, covering character design, maps, and weaponry.
  • Call of Duty: WWII Collector’s Edition Guide: While not strictly an art book, this 304-page hardcover guide by Prima provides extensive details on the campaign, multiplayer, and Zombies modes from the older title, making it a unique piece of CoD history for collectors.

Fans eager for more lore can also delve into several graphic novels and tie-in books:

  • Call of Duty: WWII Field Manual: Presented as Private Ronald “Red” Daniels’ combat handbook, this tie-in for 2017’s Call of Duty: WWII features original illustrations, details on units, vehicles, weapons, battlegrounds, and a firsthand perspective on the Axis-occupied France campaign.
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 graphic novel: Penned by Larry Hama with art by Marcelo Ferreira and Dan Jackson, offering an intriguing prequel story.
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 – The Official Comic Collection: This 240-page hardcover boasts contributions from Greg Rucka, Chris Roberson, Jeremy Barlow, K.A. McDonald, Aaron Duran, Matthew Robinson, and Tony Shasteen, currently on sale for $19.18 ($30).
  • Call of Duty: Vanguard hardcover omnibus edition: Collects the entire 112-page tie-in comic book series.
