During the recent Halo World Championships, Microsoft officially unveiled the highly anticipated remake of the original Halo, now titled ‘Halo: Campaign Evolved.’ This reveal marks a historic moment for the franchise, as ‘Campaign Evolved’ is set to be the very first Halo game to launch on PlayStation 5, and indeed, any PlayStation console. Following this groundbreaking announcement, Microsoft and Halo Studios confirmed a significant strategic shift: all future Halo games will embrace a multi-platform release strategy, making them available on PlayStation, Xbox consoles, and PC.
The announcement was underscored by Halo Studios community director Brian Jarrard, who appeared on stage at the Halo World Championships wearing a PlayStation T-shirt. He enthusiastically shared the news of the franchise’s expansive future, emphasizing its importance.
“It’s a huge deal,” Jarrard declared. “It’s been a long time coming. We are incredibly excited to welcome even more players into the franchise we cherish, allowing them to experience the magic of Halo just as many of us did 24 years ago. As a community leader, I know the existing Halo community is eager to bring their friends into this universe. Ultimately, this means more Halo for everyone, heralding a truly new era for the series. Moving forward, Halo will be available on PlayStation, starting with Halo: Campaign Evolved.”
This strategic pivot is not entirely unexpected, aligning with recent sentiments from Xbox President Sarah Bond, who has suggested that the concept of exclusive games is becoming an outdated notion for many players. Over the past two years, an increasing number of Xbox titles have made their way to PlayStation, including another iconic Xbox franchise, Gears of War. In fact, Xbox games have, at times this year, even dominated the best-selling titles on PlayStation’s US sales charts, reflecting a clear evolution in the gaming landscape.
While a rumored live-service Halo game was not announced during the Halo World Championships, Microsoft has previously confirmed that multiple new Halo games are currently in active development. As the franchise approaches its 25th anniversary next year, fans can anticipate the launch of ‘Halo: Campaign Evolved’ in 2026 across Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
To celebrate the series’ legacy, a visual gallery showcasing ‘Halo Games, Ranked – The Best Halo FPS Games’ was also presented, offering a nostalgic journey through the franchise’s storied history.
