In an unusual turn of events, a wife in Wuhu, Anhui province, China, found herself in a marital dispute that required police intervention. The conflict arose after she consulted an online fortune teller and, despite the absence of any concrete evidence, became convinced her husband was having an affair. The fortune teller had reportedly claimed the husband was visiting prostitutes and secretly meeting other women in hotels.
The wife had paid 500 yuan (approximately $70 USD) for this consultation. According to a police officer from the Guandou Police Station, the woman’s unquestioning belief in the fortune teller’s words, simply because she had already paid for the service, fueled the escalating accusations.
The husband, overwhelmed by the baseless claims and the constant harassment from his wife towards the fortune teller, approached the police. He described his life as unbearable due to the constant accusations, stating he could no longer tolerate the situation. Seeking to clear his name and restore peace to his marriage, he requested police assistance.
Authorities have since stepped in to mediate the dispute, advising the wife to rely on factual evidence rather than superstitions. The police have counseled both parties, aiming to de-escalate the situation and encourage more constructive communication within the marriage.
