In a case of jewelry theft in Dubai, a European woman has been ordered to pay a substantial fine of 15,000 AED, equivalent to about ₹3.5 lakh. The conviction comes after she was caught on surveillance cameras stealing a gold necklace valued at 10,000 AED.
The incident, which took place in March 2025, only came to light when a store salesperson realized the necklace was missing shortly after the woman’s departure. CCTV footage from the store clearly showed the woman placing the gold necklace into her handbag before making a swift exit.
Apprehended by Dubai Police who used her vehicle information to track her down, the woman admitted to the theft. During questioning, she cited emotional distress due to the recent death of her sister as the reason for her actions. While her legal counsel sought leniency, the court found the evidence of intent to steal compelling, with the judge stating that the defendant’s actions and the surrounding circumstances clearly indicated her awareness of her wrongdoing.
