The Indian film and television industry is in mourning as veteran actor Satish Shah has passed away at the age of 74. Reports indicate that his death was due to septic shock. His demise has prompted an outpouring of grief and tributes from many prominent figures in Bollywood.
Priyanka Chopra Jonas took to her Instagram Stories to share her sorrow, reposting a tribute from India Cultural Hub and writing, “Rest in Peace, Satishji.” The sentiment was echoed by Kareena Kapoor Khan, who shared a throwback picture of Satish Shah alongside Sumeet Raghavan and Rajesh Kumar from the beloved sitcom “Sarabhai vs Sarabhai.” She captioned the post, “Rest in glory Satish Shah.”
Hrithik Roshan remembered Satish Shah with a touching post on X (formerly Twitter). He wrote, “Rest in peace, dear Satish Sir. I will never forget the kindness you extended to a newcomer like me on set. Your humour and legacy will continue to inspire. My deepest condolences to the family & friends.” R Madhavan also shared a poignant memory on X, posting an old photograph of himself with Satish Shah and Mandira Bedi from their time working together on the sitcom “Ghar Jamai.” Madhavan fondly recalled Shah’s encouraging presence, stating, “The heavens will be a merrier and a happier place now… Thank you for being such a solid wind beneath my wings early on in my career… for constantly believing in me and egging me on. You will be missed so very much, Satish Ji.. A void that can never be filled… Rest in Eternal Peace, sir.”
Anupam Kher shared an emotional video tribute, describing Shah as a “knowledgeable” and dear friend. Overcome with emotion, Kher shared, “Kya ho raha hai yeh? 3-4 din mein itne acche acche log chale gaye. Kya ho raha hai yeh (What is happening? In the last 3-4 days, so many good people have left us. What is happening?).” Kher recalled addressing Shah as “Satish mere Shah (Satish, my King)” and being called “jahapana (king)” by him. He added, “He was a very good friend of mine. Shocking, it’s shocking… I was with him in so many films. He used to make me laugh. He had great general knowledge. I used to test him… Koi haq nahi hai aapko aise achanak jaane ka (You don’t have the right to leave so suddenly).” Kher concluded by extending his heartfelt condolences to Satish Shah’s wife, Madhu Shah, expressing deep sadness over the irreplaceable loss.
Satish Shah, a celebrated actor with a career spanning over four decades, was a household name, renowned for his impeccable comedic timing in both films and television. His extensive filmography includes memorable roles in “Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro,” “Main Hoon Na,” “Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa,” “Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge,” and the popular television series “Sarabhai vs Sarabhai,” among many others.
