In a swift turn of events, a 24-year-old substitute teacher, Miata Borders, was terminated from her position at Lake Cormorant High School in Mississippi on October 17th. Her dismissal came shortly after she shared a TikTok video documenting her first day on the job.
The video, which was widely circulated on social media platforms like TikTok, X, and Reddit, showcased Borders engaging in several unprofessional behaviors. These included placing her feet on the teacher’s table, expressing amusement at being mistaken for a student, and performing a “fit check” within the school premises. Most critically, the video featured minor students, whom Borders filmed while making remarks that were widely criticized as inappropriate and potentially sexually suggestive.
One particularly controversial moment in the video showed Borders filming a student holding pom-poms and wearing a red skirt and crocs, accompanied by her comment, “Yeah they got it going on in this joint.” This remark, along with others like, “Damn shorty, jeesh. Man I get up after these school kids tryna take me down,” drew significant backlash online, with many users condemning her attitude and deeming it unprofessional.
Borders also stated in the video, “My kids didn’t have to do too much. To be honest I let ’em do whatever they wanna do. Yes, I am that type of teacher.”
The DeSoto County Schools district confirmed Borders’ termination, informing Kelly Services that she is no longer permitted to work as a substitute teacher within the district. The incident has sparked outrage among parents and the public, highlighting concerns about student privacy and the professionalism expected of educators, especially regarding the recording of minors without consent.
