The much-anticipated, yet secretive, battle royale mode for Battlefield 6 might just be a surprise release as early as next week. This exciting possibility comes from both datamining discoveries and reliable insider sources.
Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson has stated that the battle royale mode is set for a sudden launch on October 28. Further reinforcing this, dataminers have uncovered mentions of “Granite” within the Battlefield 6 game files, which Modern Warzone claims is indeed the battle royale mode, also pointing to an October 28 shadowdrop.
While Battlefield Studios has confirmed the development of a battle royale experience, they’ve kept details like its pricing under wraps. However, a surprise launch isn’t unprecedented; EA famously ‘shadowdropped’ Apex Legends without prior extensive promotion in February 2019.
Modern Warzone has further detailed that the mode will be named ‘Battlefield: RedSec’ and, as many speculated, will be a free-to-play title.
A tweet from ModernWarzone on October 24, 2025, confirmed the name ‘Battlefield: RedSec’ for the free-to-play battle royale. It reiterated the October 28 release date and emphasized that there would likely be no trailers or official announcements before the launch itself, making it a complete shadowdrop.
This isn’t EA’s first foray into the battle royale arena for Battlefield; the Firestorm mode in Battlefield V back in 2019 didn’t gain significant traction. This new Battlefield 6 mode will enter a competitive landscape, facing off against established giants such as Fortnite, PUBG, and Call of Duty: Warzone.
EA has been actively testing the battle royale mode with its dedicated Battlefield Labs community. Recently, the developers shared insights into several changes implemented for the mode, which include:
- Close-range TTK: Time-to-kill at close range for all weapons has been adjusted to better reward precise positioning and tracking, while also giving players more opportunity to react to attacks. This will continue to be monitored post-launch.
- Armor Changes: Players will now start with the capacity for two armor plates, with one plate already equipped. This ensures everyone has an immediate chance to upgrade their protection as soon as they begin looting.
- World Improvements: Developers have been diligently addressing environmental bugs and optimizing various areas. These enhancements include adjustments to lighting and improved visibility across the map.
- Vehicle Balance: Adjustments have been made to the balance of helicopters and combat vehicles. The goal is to maintain their powerful role, embodying Battlefield’s core gameplay, without making them absolutely essential for survival or winning the late game. This specifically involved notable changes to helicopter countermeasures and ammo availability.
Coinciding with the rumored battle royale launch, October 28 also marks the arrival of Battlefield 6’s Season 1, bringing new maps and exciting modes to the multiplayer experience.
Battlefield 6 enjoyed a strong debut on October 10, quickly selling 7 million copies and achieving the series’ biggest launch ever. For a deeper dive, consider checking out reviews on Battlefield 6.
